Congratulations to President Obama from ISE
We would like to congratulate President Obama by becoming the first Afro-American president. We are looking forward to many great changes under his administration. President Obama has many supporters in Japan, both foreign and Japanese.
I myself, as a child of the civil rights era and coming from that of a mixed heritage, have witnessed and experienced many racial injustices both at home and abroad.
This day has been a long time in the making and marks a significant change in the mindset of Americans towards not only racial harmony but also what it means to be American. I am often asked, ”How do we define what is America?” My answer is simple, a country that represents a melting pot of cultures, nationalities and shared values living together in harmony. Today we can congratulate president Obama for his historic accomplishment but we can also congratulate the American people for making this historic day happen.
It is a major milestone in American history to see our first Afro-American president take office. This is not only a great moment for Afro-American but for all people around the world irregardless of color or background.
The message is clear. “We did it!”
